For Mumbai’s water supply, yet another dam in the Western Ghats set to submerge forests & villages

Maharashtra government plans to build a dam on the Gargai River. This project requires cutting three lakh trees and relocating six villages in Palghar. The dam aims to augment Mumbai's water supply by 2030. The project impacts the Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary. Concerns arise over environmental damage and displacement of tribal communities. The government is seeking necessary clearances for the project.
