In the latest development in the South Calcutta Law College alleged gangrape case, a security guard has been arrested on Saturday, making it the fourth arrest in the case so far. Police were also trying to find out whether the entire crime was pre-planned or not, he said.
All three accused were arrested on Thursday. The medical examination of the woman was also conducted on the same day.
Why was she gangraped?
The police suspect that the law college student in Kolkata was gang raped since she turned down the marriage proposal of the main accused making him angry, an officer said on Saturday.
“Going by the sequence of events, it appears that the victim had to face torture because of vengeance of the prime accused after she rejected his marriage proposal. This has been corroborated by the circumstantial evidence,” the officer said.
“But whether it was a pre-planned crime or it happened suddenly needs to be proved,” the officer said. The woman told the three accused that she had a boyfriend and was “happy with him” and would not “cheat him”.
The trio then threatened to kill her boyfriend and lodge false cases against her parents if she continued to resist the prime accused, she has alleged.
What is there in written complaint?
In her written complaint to the police, the victim said she had gone to the college to fill a form for a test and was forced to stay back in the union room even after it was completed. She then said that one of the three accused proposed her to marry but she refused telling them she was already in a relationship. Her ordeal lasted from 7.30 pm to 10.50 PM on June 25. At one point of time, she was unable to breathe properly and requested the accused to take him to a neaby private hospital. The plea fell on deaf ears and the torture continued. The woman said in the complaint that she then sought an inhaler which they brought from a medical store. She also alleged that the two senior students present there had video recorded the rape on their mobile phones and threatened to leak it to social media if she approaches the police.
