‘The Batman 2’: Matt Reeves completes script for sequel after multiple delays

Matt Reeves has finally dropped an eagerly awaited update on the next The Batman film. Taking to his social media, Reeves confirmed that the last lines of the script have been penned, along with his co-writer Mattson Tomlin.

Reeves and Tomlin posted a black-and-white image of the front page of the script, decorated with the unmissable Batman logo. In the photo, the duo are seen gazing at the document from afar. “Partners in Crime (Fighters),” ⁦the director captioned the image.

Comments were flooded with excited DC fans, one user writing, “I used to pray for times like this,” while another penned, “Bro, I thought this might never happen. My excitement for this movie has been completely drained but now I'm more exhilarated for this movie than anything else in life.” Many also speculated that the caption could hint at the arrival of Robin, Batman’s sidekick. A netizen commented, “Did he just say partners does that mean we might get a young robin?”

The news comes as a welcome surprise as rumours were rife that the film might be shelved due to the delay in production. Reeve’s The Batman was released in 2022—three years ago.

The Batman opened with raving reviews but met with obvious competition from its previous iterations like the 1989 Michael Keaton-starrer Batman and Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. In its review of the film, THE WEEK wrote, “The Batman is darker, and arguably, better than earlier iterations, despite some issues. And had a few flaws been corrected, this movie would have been quite special. The fact that these problems, like bomb-proof Batman, were not that difficult to tackle makes it all the more irritating. But the movie is still a must-watch for Batman fans and is well worth a watch for others, too.”

The upcoming movie, backed by Warner Bros, is set to release on October 1, 2027, featuring Robert Pattinson as the masked vigilante, Zoë Kravitz, Colin Farrell, Paul Dano, Andy Serkis and others.
