Toll tax exemption: Now toll tax on these highways will be only Rs 153 instead of Rs 317, know who will get exemption
Toll Tax News: After this decision of the government, travelling on highways made of flyovers and tunnels will become cheaper than before. Till now the toll rates on these highways were up to 10 times more than the normal highways. Now it will be reduced to only 5 times.
Govt to cut by half toll rates: If you also travel on highways with flyovers, underpasses or tunnels, then this news is for you. The central government has decided to halve the toll rates on such highways. These rules will especially apply to those roads, more than 50% of which are made up of structures (such as flyovers, underpasses, tunnels).
The Ministry of Road Transport has approved this decision and a notification will be issued regarding this in the next few days. After this decision of the government, now traveling on highways made of flyovers and tunnels will become cheaper than before. Till now the toll rates on these highways were up to 10 times compared to normal highways. Now it will be reduced to only 5 times.
Only Rs 153 will be charged instead of Rs 317
This step of the government has been taken keeping in mind those highways and bypasses built in urban areas, where the construction cost is high and a long part is made of structures like flyovers or tunnels.
For example, Delhi’s Dwarka Expressway can be taken. This expressway is 28.5 km long, out of which 21 km are structures. According to the current toll rates, a one-way car journey on this costs around Rs 317. In which Rs 306 is charged for the structured part and Rs 11 for the normal part. But after the new rules come into force, the toll will be only Rs 153. That means passengers will directly save more than 50%.
Who will benefit the most?
This decision will prove to be most beneficial for those commuters who use the urban ring road, bypass and highway daily. On the other hand, it will not make much difference for those who have taken annual toll pass for private vehicles.
After this change, the new highway projects being built in urban areas in the coming time will not have a huge impact on the pockets of the commuters and will help in making the traffic smooth.
