New horticulture waste facility on cards
The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has decided to establish a Horticulture Waste Processing Plant of 60 TPD (tonnes per day) capacity for scientific processing of horticulture waste.
The agenda in this regard is being placed before the general house of the Municipal Corporation to be held on June 30.
As per the agenda, the MC has various green zones in Chandigarh, which collectively generate 60 tonnes of horticulture waste on a daily basis and 120 tonne waste in the peak season.
Horticulture waste mostly comprises dry leaves (in autumn season), cut grass, garden waste from parks/households, palm tree leaves and may comprise pruning waste. At present, a waste processing plant of 30 TPD capacity is located near 3 BRD Chandigarh for processing selective horticulture waste of pruned branches up to 6-inch girth.
The existing capacity is required to be upgraded in view of increased quantum of horticulture waste. To enhance the capacity of the processing plant, the MC has identified 3 acres of land for setting up a 60 TPD plant. A request for proposal (RFP) has been prepared for establishment of the new plant, for operation and maintenance of existing facility and to handover the facility to the MC after the completion of contract.
The successful bidder will establish, operate and maintain the plant for scientific processing of horticulture waste in addition to operate and maintain the existing 30 TPD plant.
As and when the 60 TPD processing plant will be successfully awarded to contractual agency, the existing horticulture waste processing facility of 30 TPD will be attached with new facility.
