Mayor seeks investigation into substandard drain work in Hisar
Hisar Municipal Corporation (MCH) Mayor Praveen Popli has demanded an investigation into alleged irregularities and the use of substandard materials in the construction of the stormwater drain along Delhi Road in Hisar.
During an inspection of the drain stretch between Suncity and Jindal Flyover, the Mayor observed several damaged and deteriorating sections. Disturbed by the visibly poor construction quality, which may have caused structural damage, Popli wrote to Public Works Department Minister Ranbir Gangwa, seeking a fair and comprehensive probe into the matter. PWD (Buildings and Roads) SDO Arun Kumar was also present during the inspection.
The Mayor stated that the ongoing construction work did not appear satisfactory. He mentioned that MC Councillor Jagmohan Mittal had also recently raised objections regarding the same project. Popli added that local residents had submitted complaints alleging the use of inferior materials and improper levelling during the drain’s construction.
He further noted that a portion of the under-construction drain had recently collapsed, raising serious concerns about possible negligence and irregularities. During his inspection, the Mayor rebuked officials and remarked that the collapse clearly indicated construction flaws.
Emphasising the gravity of the situation, he reiterated his demand for a thorough inquiry and called for strict action against those found guilty following the investigation.
