Speaker leads from the front as Dharamsala prepares for conference
In a show of active leadership and detailed planning, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania has taken direct charge of the preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Parliamentary Union (CPU) Annual Conference – India Region II. The high-profile event is set to take place at the Tapovan Vidhan Sabha Bhawan in Dharamsala on June 30 and July 1.
Arriving from Shimla last evening, Speaker Pathania immediately launched into an on-site review of all arrangements. He inspected every corner of the Vidhan Sabha complex and issued clear instructions to ensure excellence in cleanliness, hospitality and protocol. From finalising the seating plan in the House to curating the lunch menu for dignitaries, he has adopted a hands-on approach, reflecting the importance of the event.
The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) has been assigned the responsibility of food and hospitality, with a clear directive to showcase the best of Himachali cuisine and warmth. Arrangements for accommodation have also been meticulously planned. Senior dignitaries, including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, and legislative leaders from across the country, will stay at Hotel Hyatt Dharamshala. Other participants will be hosted at Hotel Indraprastha.
The CPU conference is expected to bring together the top parliamentary figures from across India. Lok Sabha Speaker and CPU India Region President Om Birla will land at Gaggal Airport at 8 am on June 30. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will arrive a day earlier to join the conference.
The inaugural session on June 30 at 10 am will begin with a welcome address by Speaker Pathania. Deputy Speaker Vinay Kumar will deliver the vote of thanks. With final touches being applied, Dharamshala is vibrant with anticipation. The conference stands not only as a major political gathering but also as a tribute to democratic spirit and the cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh.
