Woman dies, 4 patients referred to GMC Jammu

RAJOURI, June 28: An old woman died on Saturday due to gastroenteritis disease caused by use of contaminated water in Dhar Sakri village of Kotranka Sub Division of Rajouri district, while four sick patients have been referred to GMC Jammu.
Tehsildar Kotranka (Kandi) Sahil Ali Shah said that a 75-year-old woman of the said village, Vidya Devi, wife of Late Puran Singh, who was sick for some time and had some other physical ailments as well, but for the last two days she was also suffering from gastroenteritis and was vomiting and suffering from diarrohea. Her treatment was started a few days ago but on Saturday she died during treatment.
Shah further said that on the instructions of DC Rajouri, he has given financial help of Rs 1 lakh to the family of the deceased woman.
Medical Superintendent of GMC Rajouri, Dr Shamim Ahmed told that 26 patients were brought to GMC so far, out of which four patients have been referred to GMC Jammu due to their kidney involvement and have to be referred to Jammu for Nephrological consultation these includes 30 year old woman Zahida Kosar, 60 year old woman Kamlesh Devi, 60 year old man Janak Singh and 70 year- old woman Durga Devi. After that, 14 patients were discharged from the hospital after recovery, while 8 patients are still undergoing treatment in GMC, Rajouri.
Principal GMC Rajouri, Dr A S Bhatia said that every year during rainy season there is increase in the number of Gastroenteritis cases and there is nothing to panic about it. Dr Bhatia further said there is enough stock of IV fluids and other drugs and Hospital is fully geared up to handle the recent situation.
Medical Superintendent of GMC Rajouri told that from the water samples collected so far, the water seems to be contaminated with a bacteria called E- Coli, but some reports are yet to come. The special team of GMC Rajouri also visited the area on Saturday and took samples of food items and water and sent them for testing.
