Ludhiana cricket assn honours women members of U-19 team for finishing 2nd

The Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA), an affiliated body of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), honoured players of women U-19 team, who finished runners-up in the recently concluded Punjab State Inter-District One-Day Limited Overs Cricket Tournament organised by the PCA. They were felicitated at an impressive function held at the GRD Academy Auditorium here on Saturday, where Inderjit Kaur, Ludhiana Mayor, was the chief guest.

The players were handed over a cheque for Rs 50,000 which was received from the PCA under the Emerging Champions Scheme. They were given cricket kit in addition to memento in recognition of their achievement. Ramanpreet Kaur, coach of the team was also honoured for her guidance.

Ludhiana cricketers had won three of the four league matches to qualify for knock-out stage. In the final, local players went down fighting against Patiala and had to contend with the runners-up trophy.

IPL player Nehal Wadhera and Ranji player Gitansh Khera were also honoured on this occasion for their outstanding contribution, bringing pride to their city that would inspire others.

Sunny Khosla, chairman, sub-committee, appointed by the PCA to oversee day-to-day cricket activities in Ludhiana, welcomed the Mayor and congratulated the players and coach on bringing laurels to the association and the city. Iqbal Singh Ahuja, Ashok Jain, Sunil Mehra and Vinod Chitkara, all founder members of the LDCA, were also felicitated on this occasion.

Meanwhile, Sunny Bhalla, honorary secretary, LDCA, alleged that the chairman dominated the function and didn’t invite the president and secretary to attend the felicitation function.
