Kolkata gang-rape: NCW accuses West Bengal police of hiding law student, family from inquiry

National Commission for Women (NCW) member Archana Majumdar, who visited the South Kolkata Law College where alleged gang-rape happened on Sunday, charged the Kolkata police is not letting her meet the law student. She also alleged the police have also "hidden the victim's family".

Majumdar charged police did not allow her to photograph the crime scene. "Neither are they (police) letting us meet the victims, see the crime scene, nor did they let us take any photographs. The police do not want us to meet the victim's family. The police are saying that they don't know where the family is," ANI reported quoting Majumdar.

The NCW member charged Kolkata police have hidden the victim's family somewhere. "This is ridiculous," she said, adding, "We will include everything in the report." Majumdar said she would report to the Commission that she could not complete her job.

Majumdar said in such cases, the NCW speaks to the survivor as well as the parents and tries to find out what they require any assistance including security, assistance in carrying forward her education, etc.

The 24-year-old first-year student of the college was allegedly raped by an alumnus of the campus while two senior students stood guard at the door on June 25. The victim was allegedly raped inside the guard room of the college. The prime accused in the case is allegedly closely associated with the ruling Trinamool Congress in Kolkata.

Kolkata police have formed an SIT to probe the matter and four persons including the college security guard have been arrested in connection with the case.
