Residents’ body takes up issues with Chandigarh Mayor
Members of the Federation of Sectors Welfare Association, Chandigarh (FOSWAC), took up various issues concerning residents with Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla during its monthly executive meeting held at People’s Convention Centre in Sector 36 here today.
Baljinder Singh Bittu, president of the association, said parking was a matter of huge concern for all city residents as the MC had mismanaged it. He alleged that the corporation had become a den of corruption. Bittu said crores of public money were spent on community centres but these had been clandestinely converted into marriage palaces as their booking charges were exorbitantly high.
Kamal Brar, president, Ladies Wing Sector 21 RWA, alleged that the community centres had become personal properties of councillors who allowed their favourites to hold small gatherings without any process while the facility was denied to other residents.
Babla assured RWAs that their park maintenance dues would be cleared in the coming month. She said she was heading a cash-starved corporation, adding that the corporation would get enough funds from the auction of land following which all pending works would be completed. She said she was well aware of condition of roads in the city.
Along with the Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor Jasbir Singh Bunty and Arun Kumar Verma, Director, Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited, were also present at the meeting.
In his address, Verma said his firm was fully committed to supply uninterrupted electricity in the city though they were facing some teething troubles. He added that the electricity infrastructure was being upgraded on a war footing.
