Back from Mathura, Delhi CM announces biogas plants to tackle Yamuna pollution

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta returned to the Capital on Sunday afternoon after completing a spiritual and administrative visit to Mathura and immediately got back to work. She issuing fresh directions to push forward her government’s plans for setting up biogas plants near Delhi’s dairy clusters.

During her visit to Mathura, the CM offered prayers at the revered Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan and performed a barefoot ‘govardhan parikrama’, seeking blessings for the health, safety and prosperity of the people of Delhi. She described the pilgrimage as a source of spiritual strength that renews her resolve to serve the city.

In Mathura, the CM also inaugurated a Waste-to-Wealth Bio-CNG plant in Kumar village. The plant converts cow dung into compressed natural gas (CNG) and organic manure. Praising the initiative as a model for environmental conservation, she announced that her government was actively working to replicate such projects across Delhi.

She directed officials to urgently identify suitable sites near Delhi’s dairy clusters to set up similar bio-CNG plants, calling it vital for tackling pollution and boosting the city’s green energy capacity.

Speaking at the inaugural event, the CM criticised previous administrations for neglecting the issue of cow dung disposal, saying the problem had contributed significantly to the Yamuna’s pollution. She said her government was committed to providing long-term, sustainable solutions to address the problem and was making biogas plants a top priority.

“The proper disposal of cow dung is essential for making the Yamuna clean and pure again. Our government is serious about setting up bio-CNG plants and will soon begin work on two new projects near dairy colonies. This effort will help both in cleaning the Yamuna and generating green energy,” she said.

The CM’s visit, which began on Saturday, combined spiritual devotion with administrative focus. Alongside her family and party workers, she visited the Giriraj Maharaj Temple and interacted with saints and local residents during her barefoot ‘parikrama’. On Sunday morning, she offered prayers at the Banke Bihari Temple and met temple priests, receiving their blessings for Delhi’s progress.

After returning to Delhi on Sunday afternoon, the CM convened a meeting with senior officials to review the biogas project plans. She instructed them to expedite the process of identifying land parcels near dairy colonies for setting up new plants.

“These plants are key to our mission to make Delhi cleaner and restore the sanctity of the Yamuna,” she said, adding that her government would do whatever it took to ensure quick implementation.

CM Gupta emphasised that her visit reaffirmed her commitment to combining faith with action. “With Lord Banke Bihari’s blessings, we will lead Delhi on a new path of growth and transformation” she said.
