LS Speaker honours state IAS officer Vivek Chandel

In a moment proud moment for Himachal Pradesh, Vivek Chandel, an IAS officer from the state, was adjudged the ‘Best Performer in Case Study Writing’ during the 127th Induction Training Programme at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussourie, recently.

The honour was conferred upon Chandel at a formal felicitation ceremony held at Vivekananda Hall, LBSNAA. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla awarded Chandel with a certificate of excellence.

A native of Himachal Pradesh and a 2004 topper of the HAS exam, Vivek Chandel is currently posted as Director-cum-Warden of Fisheries, Himachal Pradesh, a role he has been serving in since October 2023.

The recognition at LBSNAA comes as part of a rigorous six-week programme designed to sharpen the leadership, administrative and ethical capacities of newly inducted IAS officers. The 127th batch comprised 97 officers from 19 states, all of whom went through intensive modules covering public administration, governance practices, and field-level challenges.

Adding another feather to his cap, Chandel was also unanimously selected by his peers to serve as the “Master of Ceremony” during the call-on with the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 3.

Other IAS officers from Himachal Pradesh who took part in the programme include Suneel Sharma, Special Secretary, Technical Education, and Vinay Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kangra. All three officers, part of the 2018 IAS batch, actively participated in academic, sports and cultural components of the training, highlighting Himachal’s robust administrative presence at the national level.

The LBSNAA training programme is considered a milestone in the journey of every IAS officer. To be recognised at such a forum—especially in the domain of case study writing, which requires deep analytical and governance insights — is a testament to Chandel’s administrative acumen and commitment to public service.
