Are Hybrids The Next Big Thing As Hyundai And Tata Look Beyond EVs
Carmakers are now looking at hybrids along with EVs while looking to offer more powertrains to buyers since there is a clear demand for them. Hybrid sales have increased despite only a few offerings in this segment with Toyota and Maruti Suzuki ruling the roost here with its offerings. Now, Hyundai recently announced its intent to launch new hybrid cars and not only that as even Tata Motors could consider hybrids if the customer demands it.
While carmakers like Hyundai and especially Tata Motors will continue to have EVs, there could be a change in the stance with hybrids also being considered. Hybrid sales in other markets have also increased while EV sales have fallen flat. In India, the EV segment is still growing but there is a clear demand for hybrids also which carmakers like Hyundai will address with their expected hybrid debut within an SUV silhouette.
Tata and other car makers could also launch hybrids signalling a shift. While Tata.ev still remains committed to its EV plans with numerous launches, the carmaker will consider hybrids now although Tata Motors still opposes incentives for hybrids. Hybrid sales have gone up in India with Toyota having the largest market share followed by Maruti Suzuki and Honda but more car makers will introduce proper strong hybrids in the years to come.
We will see Kia and Hyundai bringing hybrids with Hyundai confirming its hybrid launch plans as part of its new product launch strategy while the next gen Creta and Seltos would be offered with a hybrid powertrain too. It seems the key is to offer a wide variety of powertrains for the Indian buyer in the future.
