In a horrific incident, the body of a 34-year-old woman was found stuffed in a bag and dumped in a garbage truck in Banashankari area of Bengaluru in the early hours of Sunday.

Police have arrested a man with whom she was allegedly in a relationship.

The victim has been identified as Pushpa alias Asha, a resident of Venugopal Nagar in Hulimavu. She was employed as a housekeeping staffer at a private firm.

According to reports, the suspicious bag was noticed by a local resident who had gone to the area to dispose of waste. He immediately tipped off the Chennammankere Police who reached the spot and recovered the body.

Based on the initial investigation and analysis of the CCTV footage, police have arrested a 32-year-old man, identified as Mohammed Shamshuddin, a native of Assam.

Local media reports claimed that Asha was in a relationship with Shamshuddin for over a year. They lived together in a rented house in South Bengaluru's Hulimavu.

Asha is a widow while Shamshuddin has a wife and two children who live in Assam. It is not known whether the couple are legally separated.

The motive of the crime is still under investigation though police said both Asha and Shamshuddin had an argument just before he allegedly strangled her with a rope.

The CCTV footage from the area revealed that the accused transported the body stuffed in a bag on his scooter and dumped it into the garbage truck parked near a skating ground.
