What to expect from Vetrimaaran's new project with Silambarasan | What happened to 'Vaadivaasal' and 'Vada Chennai' sequel plans? Here's what the filmmaker said

Acclaimed Tamil filmmaker Vetrimaaran has shared an update on the next phase of the Vada Chennai world, with the surprise revelation that Simbu will headline a spin-off movie set in the same timeline as the events of the Dhanush film. The filmmaker also clarified some speculations about his working relationship with Dhanush.

It was earlier supposed that Vetrimaaran would be directing a project with Suriya called Vaadivaasal, however, the Visaranai maker shared that since the project is currently beset by writing delays and other technicalities concerning the safety of everyone, including the actors and animals involved in the film, Vetrimaaran decided to make the Simbu project in the meantime.

Further elaborating on the Simbu collaboration, Vetrimaaran said, "Dhanush sir had suggested I meet Simbu to discuss a new project, and within a few hours everything fell into place. So, after meeting Simbu, I called up Dhanush sir — since he is the producer and owner of the rights to any property that comes from the world of Vada Chennai —and told him that I could do this project in two ways. One, as something that's part of the Vada Chennai world. Two, as a standalone project. And he said I could do whatever I feel comfortable with, creatively speaking, and that he'll inform his team about it, that he has no issues with it, that he will give his NOC."

Vetrimaaran, who shared this in a statement on his production company's channel Grass Root Film Company, added that the reason he is doing this is because he happened to see some YouTube videos throwing around hurtful rumours and speculations about a possible rift between him and Dhanush caused by some unknown reason.

"My friendship with Dhanush sir is not something that could get affected by one issue or one film," he said, commending Dhanush's ability to respect his space and craft. "He will never disrupt my creative flow. He always tells me to safeguard my headspace and keep it clutter-free. He even managed to get me support from a producer when financial pressures recently plagued me. Dhanush sir is someone who will never disturb me. Taking the example of the Simbu project, he extended his full support and said it would be good for both me and Simbu, that it would be a different experience. And Simbu is someone who respects what Dhanush sir and I go for. When I met him four days ago, he said he is fine with doing whatever I'm comfortable with, as long as it doesn't disrupt the agreement between me and Dhanush sir."

Vetrimaaran, who last directed Vijay Sethupathi in the sequel to Viduthalai, is known for being the most frequent collaborator of Dhanush, having worked with him since his directorial debut Polladhavan, which starred Dhanush. Meanwhile, the actor, last seen in Kuberaa with Nagarjuna and Rashmika Madanna, is gearing up for the release of his latest directorial Idly Kadai soon.
