Pharmacy colleges to appoint student ambassadors to ensure stress-free study environment

To tackle stress among medical students, the Pharmacy Council of India has directed all pharmacy colleges and institutions across the country to appoint student ambassadors in colleges. These ambassadors will help peers cope with mental health issues, listen to problems, and ensure a stress-free environment.
PCI has directed all pharmacy colleges and institutions across the country to appoint a nodal officer to strengthen coordination and ensure smoother implementation of the council’s programmes and initiatives.
The PCI has highlighted that pharmacy students like many in medical and healthcare streams often face heavy workloads, tight schedules, and mental stress. Rising concerns about burnout and student well-being have pushed the Council to formalise this support structure.
According to the PCI, the nodal officer will serve as the main point of contact between the institution and the Council. This officer will coordinate the roll-out of various PCI schemes and events, ensure that communications from the Council reach all stakeholders in time, and help organise activities mandated by the PCI.
The student ambassador will act as a link between the student body and the council. The ambassador’s role will be to listen to student concerns and grievances, help resolve issues at the campus level where possible, and escalate unresolved or serious matters to the PCI or the respective State Pharmacy Council.
They will also promote awareness about PCI initiatives and contribute to creating a safe, supportive, and stress-free learning environment.
“This initiative is aimed at enhancing the quality of education, improving communication, and ensuring a healthy, supportive atmosphere for all pharmacy students,” the PCI said.
Institutions have been asked to choose a responsible and empathetic student for this role and share their details with the Council at the earliest.
This new step is part of PCI’s wider push for quality education, safer campuses, better mental health outcomes, and transparent grievance redressal.
