Man Arrested for Killing Relative over Family Dispute in Bismagiri

Berhampur: A tragic incident occurred in Bhismagiri village under Digapandi Police Station limits when a 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his 40-year-old relative in the early hours of Sunday, around 4:00 AM.
The motive behind the crime is reported to be a family dispute, as per police.
The accused, K. Santosh Patra, son of K. Narsingh Patra, assaulted the deceased, B. Tulu Patra, son of B. Brundabana Patra, with a wooden stick (thenga). The attack caused severe head injuries, leading to profuse bleeding and the victim’s death on the spot.
The incident stemmed from a heated dispute the previous night, June 29, 2025, over the accused not being invited to a puja ceremony at the deceased’s residence. The two, who are relatives and live in houses facing each other, had a confrontation during which the accused’s mother sustained minor injuries to her finger after it got caught in a house grill.
Enraged by this, the accused allegedly planned the attack. That night, the victim was sleeping on the verandah outside his home when the accused struck him on the head with the thenga, resulting in his death.
The Digapandi Police have arrested the accused, and he is set to be produced before the court. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain further details of the incident, informed Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M.
