Father jumps overboard Bahamas Disney cruise to rescue child who fell from deck

A father jumped off a Disney cruise ship to save his daughter after she fell overboard on Sunday, reports said.

The cruise ship Disney Dream was sailing back to Fort Lauderdale from a four day trip to the Bahamas. The ship was close to Disney’s private island Lookout Clay when the incident occurred.

After the father had jumped, the ship’s intercom had rung the emergency code “Mr M.O.B.”

The child had fallen from the fourth deck and had a safety barrier. The dad had kept the child afloat for about 20 minutes before the rescue team arrived in the lifeboat according to the Daily Mail.

In a statement to the USA Today, the Disney cruise line said "The Crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water."

"We commend our Crew Members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes. We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests, and this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols,” a Disney Cruise Line spokesperson said in the statement.

The ship’s crew had jumped to action and lowered a vessel to rescue both the passengers.

Passengers aboard the ship made social media posts describing the incident. One passenger, Kevin Furata posted saying “A girl fell overboard from the 4th deck & her dad went in after her ... Thankfully the DCL rescue team was on it immediately and both were saved!”

Some passengers also confirmed that the ship was not docked while the incident happened.

User metzd87 on Reddit explained in the DCL community, “Not docked! Halfway between Bahamas and Ft. Lauderdale! Fully moving! Heard in our rooms 'Mr. M.O.B port side.’”
