Patna Metro Update: The dream of running a metro train in Patna is now very close to becoming a reality. The capital is going to get its first metro train in the month of July. This three-coach state-of-the-art train manufactured by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited in Pune, Maharashtra will reach the metro depot in Patna, where the work of assembling it will be completed in 15 to 20 days. After this, its trial run will be started in the 6.107 km long primary corridor.

Rs 115 crore released to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation

The state government has geared up for this project. Earlier, funds from Japan’s agency ‘JICA’ were awaited for the purchase of metro coaches, but due to delay in it, the Bihar government released Rs 115 crore to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Not only trains, but also essential equipment like tracks, escalators and lifts have been purchased from this amount.

Each coach will have a capacity of 300 passengers

This small metro train with three coaches has been specially designed keeping in mind the urban needs. Its special feature is that it consumes less energy and shows more efficiency in short distance travel. Each coach will have a capacity of 300 passengers, that is, about 900 passengers will be able to travel at a time. Its advantage will also be that with more frequency in less crowd, passengers will get a comfortable travel experience.

5 stations will be connected under the primary corridor

5 stations will be connected under the primary corridor – New Patliputra Bus Terminal, Zero Mile, Bhootnath, Khemnichak and Malahi Pakadi. However, in the initial phase, the metro will not stop at Khemnichak station, as it is an interchange station and its construction work is still incomplete.

Metro service will start from 15 August 2025

According to the Urban Development and Housing Department, the target has been set to start metro service on this corridor from 15 August 2025. If everything happens on time, it will bring a historic change in the transport system of Patna. With access to narrow areas, affordable travel and eco-conscious design, this metro will open the way for future smart travel for the residents of the capital.
