After nearly 5 years, Kurukshetra tourist info centre re-opens

Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh on Monday said tourists coming to the district could get information about pilgrimage and other tourist sites at the Tourist Information and Facilitation Centre (TIFC) of the Kurukshetra Development Board (HDC) here. After remaining closed for nearly five years, the TIFC at Arjun Chowk was re-opened for tourists on Monday, and will be operated by a self-help group.

The DC said, “Kurukshetra is gradually gaining popularity as a centre of spirituality, and a large number of people from various states of the country, and abroad, visit the district every year. However, due to lack of information about tourist sites, tourists used to face various issues. To address these issues, the centre at Arjun Chowk has been re-opened, and tourists will get consolidated information here.”

At the centre, guides will be available, and tourists can get information about tirthas spread over the 48-kos area.

“Following the directions of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, another TIFC will be started in the next three months. There is a plan to open tourist information centres at Jyotisar and the railway station too. Directions have been issued to the officials concerned in this regard,” the Deputy Commissioner said.

Singh said the KDB had prepared a special box containing water from the Brahma Sarovar, a copy of the Gita, a leaf from the iconic banyan tree at Jyotisar, and prasad. Tourists will be able to buy the box from the TIFC.

KDB Honorary Secretary Upender Singhal said, “At the TIFC, tourists will be able to watch a documentary about Kurukshetra. Visitors will get cloak room, food court, guide, taxi, and restaurant, hotel and ticket booking facilities at the centre. It will also offer replicas of sculptures and other artefacts recovered during the excavation under the 48-kos land of Kurukshetra.”
