23 deaths due to heavy rains in Himachal during past 10 days
Himachal Pradesh has suffered a loss of Rs 75.69 crores due to torrential rains that has occurred across the state during the past 10 days. As per the Revenue Department, the state has witnessed 23 deaths as a result of flashfloods, cloudbursts, drowning, etc since June 20. Also, as many as 259 link roads across the state remain closed while 614 distribution transformers and 144 water supply schemes across the state remain disrupted.
Heavy downpour continued across the state on Monday, resulting in a flashflood triggered by a cloudburst in Sikka Seri village in Sarpara gram panchayat in Rampur, Shimla district. As a result, the house of Rajendra Kumar was badly affected. The floodwaters engulfed one room, a storeroom, kitchen, and cowshed. Also, a cow and two calves housed in the cowshed were swept away. Additionally, around 70 to 80 apple trees and plants belonging to Rajendra’s elder brother, Vinod Kumar, and Gopal Singh were completely destroyed.
Heavy rainfall was also reported in many parts of the state as Pandoh and Mandi received 120 mm rain each, highest in the state followed by 80 mm in Palampur in Kangra district, 60 mm in Kasauli, 30 mm each in Shimla, Solan and Nahan and 20 mm in Hamirpur.
Meanwhile, a high to moderate flash flood warning has also been issued for the next 24 hours for Kangra, Mandi and Sirmaur districts. As per the State’s Meteorological Department, heavy rain is very likely to continue across the state till July 5 as yellow weather warning has been issued for various districts of the state for the next few days.
Shimla, the state’s capital, recorded 19.2°C maximum temperature while prominent tourist destinations Dharamsala, Manali and Kasauli recorded 28°C, 24.2°C and 24.7°C, respectively.
Maximum temperature in Solan was 23.5°C, Mandi 24.4°C, Kangra 24.5°C, Chamba 28.7°C, Bilaspur 29.1°C, Keylong 26.3°C, Kalpa 23.2°C, Kufri 17.4°C, Nahan 25.8°C, Bhuntar 30.6°C, Sundernagar 25.2°C, Narkanda 16°C and Reckong Peo 27.6°C.
With 30.8 °C maximum temperature, Una was the hottest place in the state while Keylong in tribal district Lahaul and Spiti was the coldest as it recorded 13.5°C minimum temperature.
