Mumbai: Western Railway GM Ashok Kumar Misra Cycles Into Retirement, Inspires With Fitness And Discipline Till Last Day

In a display of unwavering dedication and personal discipline,  Ashok Kumar Misra, General Manager of Western Railway, bid farewell to his long and illustrious career not from behind a desk—but from the paddle of a bicycle.

Even on his last working day, i.e., June 30, Misra—known for his tireless energy and commitment to fitness—began his day with a 20-kilometer cycling session before heading to the office. His morning routine, which many younger colleagues often found hard to match, remained unchanged, underscoring his lifelong commitment to health and well-being.

“His passion for fitness is truly inspiring,” said a colleague. “While many would take it easy on their last day,  Misra stuck to his routine like clockwork. That’s the kind of discipline that defined his entire career.”

Misra has long been admired within the Western Railway family, not just for his professional contributions but also for his ability to motivate others by example. Whether it was through his punctuality, ethical work culture, or his infectious positivity, he left a lasting impression on everyone he worked with.

"As he pedals into retirement,  Misra leaves behind not just a record of exemplary service, but also a legacy of health, perseverance, and inspiration. His last day was less a goodbye and more a celebration of a life well-led—on and off the tracks" said a senior officer of WR.
