Amarnath Yatra 2025: India's Most Awaited Pilgrimage Begins In July

The much-awaited Amarnath Yatra 2025, one of India's most revered Hindu pilgrimages, is all set to begin in July 2025. Every year, thousands of devotees undertake this spiritual journey to seek blessings from Lord Shiva, whose naturally formed ice Shivling is worshipped in the Amarnath Temple located in Jammu and Kashmir. This year, this auspicious Yatra is set to begin on July 3, 2025. Final preparations are being reviewed across various levels of administration and security in Jammu and Kashmir.

The first batch of pilgrims is set to begin on July 2

The first batch of pilgrims will be flagged off from the Jammu base camp on Wednesday, July 2. The auspicious Yatra will formally begin on Thursday, July 3, 2025. Amarnath Yatra will be taken via the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. Pilgrims can choose between two main routes:

Pahalgam Route: This traditional path covers a distance of around 48 kilometers, starting from Pahalgam. It offers a scenic yet longer trek, passing through places like Chandanwari, Sheshnag, and Panchatarni before reaching the cave.

Baltal Route: This is a shorter yet steeper route of about 14 kilometers, starting from Baltal. It is ideal for those who prefer a quicker journey but are physically fit. Both routes offer breathtaking views of the Himalayas and require proper medical fitness due to high altitude and low oxygen levels.

Registration and safety

Pilgrims need to undergo mandatory registration and medical check-ups before the Yatra. The offline registration process for the Amarnath Yatra 2025 commenced on Monday. Worshippers must carry their Aadhaar card with them. To begin with, a token must be obtained from Saraswati Dham near the railway station, after which registration can proceed at the five designated registration centres in the city.

The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) oversees all arrangements, including healthcare, security, and food provisions along the routes. For many, the Amarnath Yatra is not just a journey but a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual experience filled with devotion, adventure, and faith. If you're planning to participate, make sure to complete your registration and prepare for the challenging but rewarding trek.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assessed the security

Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, chaired two high-level meetings: one with political leaders and another with civil society representatives to evaluate preparedness for the Amarnath Yatra. Office of LG J&K shared a video of Manoj Sinha on X in which he said, "My heartiest congratulations to Shri Amarnath Ji pilgrims on the inauguration of new Yatri Niwas at Srinagar. Sharing my statement to the media on the occasion."

Operation Shiva

The Indian Army has launched Operation Shiva to ensure the security of the Amarnath Yatra in Jammu & Kashmir. This operation aims to provide foolproof security to the 38-day yatra. This operation involves the Indian Army, CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), and J&K Police. For the safety of pilgrims, the CRPF has implemented a multi-layered security plan on NH-44 (Jammu-Srinagar Highway).

Some of the security measures include patrolling, dog squads, and high-tech surveillance, especially in sensitive zones like Udhampur. This multi-layered security is layered due to a constant target for terrorists, making robust security arrangements essential. Apart from that, jammers will be installed for the first time to shield the Yatra convoy during the movement.
