Aerial Taxi: Now you can reach 36 kms in 12 minutes by air taxi, first aerial taxi test successfully completed
Dubai Aerial Taxi: Dubai has taken a big step towards the future of urban transportation. Now flying taxis in the sky seem to be becoming a reality. Dubai has completed the successful test flight of its first aerial taxi. It is a completely electric plane, which can fly straight up and land without a runway. That’s why it is called eVTOL (Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing). Let’s know about it in detail.
The purpose of this air taxi
The aim of this air taxi is to provide fast, pollution-free and low-noise transportation in cities, which can easily land even in very small spaces. Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum said that this test flight shows Dubai’s commitment to adopting new technology. This test has been done in the desert area of Dubai in partnership with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Joby Aviation.
RTA
Matar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Executive of RTA, said the launch underlines Dubai’s commitment to keep pace with rapid global changes and develop future-ready solutions for emerging mobility challenges.
Flight range of the aircraft
The flight range of the aircraft is up to 160 kilometers and its maximum speed is 320 kilometers per hour. The flight from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah will take only 12 minutes, while this distance will be covered in 45 minutes by car.
First commercial air taxi
The first commercial air taxi flights are scheduled to begin in 2026 and station operations will begin near Dubai International Airport. The project is part of a broader strategy under the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 to integrate advanced transportation solutions and enhance quality of life.
Joby Aviation
Joben Bevert, Founder and CEO of Joby Aviation, said: “Dubai serves as a launchpad for the global revolution in mobility, and flying our aircraft here represents a significant step towards integrating aerial taxi services into the fabric of daily life around the world.”
The first city in the world
Dubai is the first city in the world to commit to providing urban air mobility services through an advanced vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) infrastructure network for air taxis.
