Instagram rolls out Spotify song previews in Stories, deepening music integration

Instagram has just made music sharing a lot more fun. Starting June 30 2025, users across the world can now add playable previews of Spotify songs directly to their Stories.

So, instead of just seeing a sticker or a static album cover, your friends and followers can now actually hear a short snippet of the song without leaving Instagram. It’s a small but meaningful update that makes sharing music feel more real and instant.

To date, when a track is shared by users from Spotify to Instagram, it appears as a sticker in their Instagram Story, displaying the album cover and a link but no audio. To hear the song, viewers had to tap through to Spotify.

With this new update, a short preview of the track plays automatically within the Instagram app, removing that extra step and letting users and their followers connect through music more instantly.

This rollout builds on Instagram’s growing partnership with Spotify. Just last month, Instagram introduced Spotify integration in Notes—those quick status updates that you see above your DMs. Now, you can show what you’re listening to and even add an “Add to Spotify” button so your friends can save the song instantly.

By adding audio previews to Stories, Instagram is clearly positioning itself as a stronger player in the music-sharing space. While TikTok continues to dominate viral music trends, Instagram’s more seamless and laid-back integration offers both users and artists a new avenue for discovery—without relying on elaborate edits or trending soundtracks.

These updates are part of Meta’s broader “Anyway” campaign, which encourages a more relaxed, expressive way of sharing. Alongside music previews, Instagram is also rolling out new fonts and stickers for Stories and Reels to help users further personalise their content.

Although Meta hasn’t provided details on full‑song playback or artist monetisation yet, these enhancements clearly signal a growing synergy between social media and music streaming services. For Instagram users, sharing a soundtrack is now just a tap away. For musicians, it offers yet another platform to connect with audiences in real-time.

This feature is already live worldwide, including in India. So update your app, link Spotify in your Instagram settings, and let your Stories do the talking (or singing).
