Teen Dating Dispute Turns Fatal In Bhandup: 16-Year-Old Boy Booked For Pushing Girl Off Terrace

Mumbai: A tragic incident in Bhandup has revealed how a dating dispute between two teenagers escalated, leading to the death of a 15-year-old girl. Mumbai Police investigations uncovered that a 16-year-old boy allegedly pushed the girl from a building's terrace, then attempted to cover it up as a suicide and destroy evidence. Police on Monday night registered a murder case and sent the accused boy to a juvenile detention center in Dongri.

According to the FIR, the victim, residing with her mother in Mulund, was a student at an international school. The school had sent an email stating that due to her academic performance, she would have to repeat the ninth grade, which further deepened her depression.

On the evening of June 24, at 6:18 PM, the victim arrived at the Mahindra Splendor Society, LBS Road, Bhandup West, to meet her 16-year-old friend. She discussed her academic stress and depression with him. The boy then led her to the D-wing building's rooftop.

He took her to the top of the water tank on the terrace. While talking, their conversation turned into a heated argument about dating. During the altercation, the boy reportedly forcefully shoved her, causing her to fall from the building to her death.

Subsequently, the accused boy threw her mobile phone from the terrace, which landed near the E-wing. The boy then walked down the stairs, took the lift from 30th floor, and then roamed around as if nothing had happened, before going home. This was revealed during the investigation, an official said.

Initially, when the building’s security guard discovered the girl’s body in the duct area, the Bhandup police arrived at the scene and began their investigation. The accused boy told police she had committed suicide by jumping from a window between the 30th and 31st floors due to study-related stress. However, he could not conceal his crime for long.

CCTV Footage Exposes Deception and provided crucial evidence :

- At 6:18 PM, the boy was seen taking the girl from the gate into the D-wing. From there, they took the lift to the 32nd floor and then climbed the stairs to the terrace with the girl.

- At 7:12 PM, the boy was seen coming down the stairs to the 30th floor and chatting with a resident, Shilpa Jain. After that, the boy looked into the building's duct and was later found to have gone to the gym.

The police investigation revealed several inconsistencies:

- The girl fell from the D-wing, her mobile phone was found by children near the E-wing—a location consistent with being thrown.

- The girl had entered her name as "Deepali" and the accused boy's mobile number in the visitor book upon entering the building, later the boy later tampered with the gym registration book.

- No evidence was found supporting the boy's statement that the girl jumped from a window on the staircase between the 30th and 31st floors.

- A resident, Shilpa Jain, contradicted the boy's statement, confirming she heard a loud argument and shouting, and that the boy had told her he was there to meet his friend.

Police Investigation Process:

- The girl's body was sent for post-mortem, and evidence was collected from the crime scene to begin the investigation.

- A thorough examination of the building's CCTV footage and both children's mobile phones was conducted.

- Inquiries were made with the building's security guards, residents, the accused boy's parents, the girl's mother, and friends of both children.

- The accused boy was subjected to intensive questioning in the presence of his father on June 24, 28, 29, and 30. Which uncovered the truth behind the crime.
