Vij suspends XEN for cutting power to club over entry row

Power Minister Anil Vij on Monday ordered the suspension of an Executive Engineer (XEN) of the Electricity Department for allegedly misusing his authority to disconnect electricity supply to a private club in Ambala Cantonment after he was denied entry due to dress code violations.

The action came after Shalainder Khanna, chairman of Central Phoenix Club, submitted a written representation to the minister, detailing the incident that occurred on Monday night.

According to the club chairman, XEN Harish Goel of UHBVN, Yamunanagar, arrived at the club with friends, but was denied entry into the bar area due to inappropriate attire, including shorts and slippers, which violated the club’s dress code.

“The club has well-established rules. Entry is not allowed in inappropriate attire. The staff politely asked him to comply with the guidelines,” Khanna stated.

However, the officer reportedly took offence and left. Soon after, the club’s power supply was disconnected, prompting suspicion among staff. Later, Goel allegedly called the club’s manager to inquire about the power status, which raised further concern.

“The Central Phoenix Club is a prestigious institution in Ambala. Last night, an XEN from Yamunanagar came in inappropriate attire. When stopped at the entrance as per club rules, he got the power disconnected and even called the manager to flaunt his authority,” said Minister Anil Vij.

“Such behaviour is unacceptable from a public servant. I have directed that he be suspended immediately, and an explanation has been sought from him,” the minister added.
