Not scared of Vigilance action, won’t escape probe: Pargat

Senior Congress leader Pargat Singh on Tuesday said he was not scared of the Vigilance Bureau and “won’t run away” from investigation if a corruption case was lodged against him.

The statement came days after former Punjab CM and his party colleague Charanjit Singh Channi said Pargat might be the next target of the Vigilance Bureau after the arrest of SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a corruption case.

Reports had surfaced in the media, claiming that Pargat had “gone incommunicado to escape the likely Vigilance Bureau action against him”.

Now, breaking his silence over the issue, The Congress leader said, “I am not among those who willrun away. I know that the government has been trying to build a case against me for the past two years. I am ready to face it upfront.”

Pargat also maintained his stand against the government over the handling of the case against Majithia.

“They are event managers. They are here to create content. If they were to act against him, why did they not take action in the first three years?” he asked.

The Congress leader spoke on his resignation from the post of the Punjab Congress vice-president, saying he had quit to pave the way for the restructuring of the state party unit.

Back in Jalandhar almost a week after he resigned from the post following the party’s defeat in the Ludhiana (West) bypoll, Pargat said, “I hope that the leadership would now bring in a good team forward to strengthen the Congress in the run-up to the 2027 Assembly elections. I strongly believe that the leaders should not bring in their personal egos while working for the party.”

Asked about his differences with Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Pargat replied, “He is the party’s president in the state. He should build a new team and make the PPCC strong enough to take on the government.”

Quizzed if he was in the race for the post of the state party president, the leader said, “Not at all. My agenda is to only work for the betterment of Punjab.”
