This bullet train will pass through 7 districts of Rajasthan, Jodhpur left out of route, track is 657 km long, total stations are…

The work on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is moving ahead quickly. Out of the total 508 km, nearly 300 km of the track is already ready and only the rails need to be laid now. Now, there are plans to extend this bullet train track from Ahmedabad to Delhi. The new route will pass through Udaipur, Ajmer, Jaipur, and Alwar, which means people in Rajasthan will also get to experience bullet train travel.

This new Delhi-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor will be about 878 km long, and the bullet train will run at a speed of 350 km/h on it.

In February 2025, during the Winter Session of Parliament, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a written reply that the detailed project report (DPR) for the Delhi-Ahmedabad corridor is ready. The Railway Ministry is currently studying whether the project is practical and useful. However, the full DPR hasn’t been made public yet.

Meanwhile, a high-speed trial track for the bullet train is also being built in Rajasthan. This testing track is located near the famous Sambhar Lake, about one kilometer from Nawan town in Nagaur district. This area comes under the Jodhpur Railway Division.

Bullet Train to pass through these Rajasthan districts

The proposed Delhi-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor will be 878 kilometers long, and about 75 per cent of it will pass through Rajasthan. That means the bullet train will travel nearly 657 kilometers within Rajasthan.

The train will pass through 7 districts in Rajasthan:

  • Alwar
  • Jaipur
  • Ajmer
  • Bhilwara
  • Chittorgarh
  • Udaipur
  • Dungarpur

In total, the corridor will go through 335 villages in these districts.

Out of the 11 proposed stations between Delhi and Ahmedabad, 8 stations will be built in Rajasthan. These stations are planned in:

  • Udaipur
  • Dungarpur (Kherwara)
  • Bhilwara
  • Chittorgarh
  • Ajmer
  • Kishangarh
  • Jaipur
  • Alwar (Behror)

This means a major part of Rajasthan will soon be connected by India’s fastest train, bringing big changes in travel and development.

Jodhpur left out of Bullet Train route

Despite being part of important rail routes, Jodhpur will not be included in the Delhi-Ahmedabad bullet train project. The city, which still lacks fast trains like Shatabdi or Rajdhani, is also missing from the final survey and Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the high-speed corridor.

Interestingly, Jodhpur is the only location in India where a 64-kilometer-long high-speed test track is being built, at a cost of around Rs. 800 crore. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train is expected to run its first trials here. Yet, the city itself won’t benefit directly from the project. Currently, it takes 11 to 16 hours to travel from Jodhpur to either Mumbai or Delhi.

Udaipur to benefit the most

Under the Delhi-Ahmedabad bullet train project, 9 stations are planned in Rajasthan. These will be located in:

  • Behror
  • Shahjahanpur
  • Jaipur
  • Ajmer
  • Vijaynagar
  • Bhilwara
  • Chittorgarh
  • Udaipur
  • Dungarpur

Among these, Udaipur is set to gain the most. Around 127 km of the bullet train track will pass through Udaipur district. The route will cross 5 rivers and include 8 tunnels in this area alone.

Proposed route of the Bullet Train

  • The train will start from Dwarka Sector 21 in Delhi
  • Then it will pass through Chhawla, enter Gurugram, and move via Manesar and Rewari
  • From there, it will enter Rajasthan at the Shahjahanpur border in Alwar
  • The train will run parallel to National Highway 48, connecting Jaipur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur, and then head towards Ahmedabad

This high-speed corridor will not only improve travel times but also boost economic growth and connectivity in many parts of Rajasthan.
