New Rapid Rail: Trial run of Delhi to Meerut Rapid Rail completed, now 82 km journey will be completed in just 55 minutes

Meerut Rapid Rail: A big update has come out on the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project. This project is now in its final stage. Security checks are going on in the areas where trains are not running right now. Giving this information, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) said that after the completion of the work, passengers will start getting the service of Rapid Rail.

“Recently, we conducted a successful trial run on the entire 82-km corridor. The train reached all stations from Sarai Kale Khan (in Delhi) to Modipuram (the last station in Meerut) in less than an hour. As the work is progressing at a fast pace, we hope to make this system operational very soon,” said Punit Vats, chief public relations officer, NCRTC.

Once the entire 82-km route is operational, the journey from Meerut to Delhi will take just 55 minutes. Currently, train services are operational on the 55-km stretch, which runs from New Ashok Nagar in Delhi to Meerut (south). There are a total of 11 stations on this route, of which two are in Delhi, eight in Ghaziabad and one in Meerut.

There are a total of 24 stations in the entire project, of which 13 are in Meerut. Namo Bharat trains have four stations in Meerut, while the local metro will run on all 13 stations on the same infrastructure. Officials said that security checks are going on in the sections where trains are not running right now and after this a formal inauguration will take place. They also said that security checks and final approval by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) are necessary before starting services for passengers.

Officials said that security clearance has been received for the section from Meerut (South) to Shatabdi Nagar. At the same time, the inspection of the remaining section from Shatabdi Nagar to Modipuram has started. Similarly, security checks from New Ashok Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi are also in the final stage. The inspection of the stations of the local metro module in Meerut is also going to be done soon. Officials also said that the main entry and exit of 13 stations which are not yet operational are ready for passengers, while the rest of the work will continue. The cost of building the entire RRTS project is Rs 30,274 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid its foundation in Ghaziabad on 8 March 2019.
