Twin murders rock Ganjam

Chhatrapur/Berhampur: Two ghastly murders at separate locations rocked Ganjam district Tuesday.

A youth was killed and four of his kin and friends sustained critical injuries in an organised attack at Goba village under Chhatrapur police limits, while a jilted lover killed his girlfriend by slitting her throat at New Bus stand area under Baidyanathpur police limits in Berhampur.

In the first case, the deceased was identified as Tophan Swain, 25, and his injured kin as Sudhir Kumar Swain, Nanda Barik, Kalia Sahu and Rahul Swain. The incident occurred over formation of a village committee when an opposite group attacked them.

In the second case, a youth identified as Abhaya Kumar Moharana, 24, killed his lover Priya Kumari Moharana, 24, at Pushpanajali lodge in New Bus stand area under Baidyanathpur police limits in the evening.

After killing Priya , Abhaya, a resident of Padhi Colony in Lanjipalli, surrendered at Goshani Nuagaon police station. He is stated to have taken the extreme step after Priya’s marriage was fixed elsewhere. He allegedly lost his mental balance and killed Priya by slitting her throat in the lodge.
