'The Odyssey' teaser: Where to see first footage from Christopher Nolan's new epic?

Christopher Nolan may have wanted fans to see the first teaser of his eagerly aniticipated new film The Odyssey the way he intended — not online, but on the big screen — but in this age where everyone has a phone and wants to indulge in the shameless practice of ruining it for everyone else, even those who claim to be Nolan fans may not respect his wishes.

Anyway, after the teaser leaked online some hours back, it has been reported that the one-minute-long footage is attached to screenings of Jurassic World: Rebirth, out on July 4. The leak, which features two popular cast members working with Nolan for the first time, and contains brief snippets from different parts of the movie, incorporated into the footage in trademark Nolan style, presumably occurred during preview screenings of the same.

This is not the first time that Nolan opted to debut the teaser of his new films in theatres before it went online. Past examples include the Tenet teaser (presented before screenings of Hobbs & Shaw) and the Oppenheimer teaser (attached with screenings of Nope). Nolan even made a special effort to preview the prologues of films such as The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises and Tenet along with major tentpole releases.

The Odyssey narrates the legend of the Greek king, Odysseus. While returning home from the Trojan War, he meets a strange group of mythological characters. Given the non-linear storytelling in Homer's work, Nolan's taking on this project is self-explanatory.

Produced by Universal Pictures and Nolan's wife, Emma Thomas, under their home banner Syncopy Pictures, The Odyssey will hit screens on July 17, 2026.

Nolan is going all out with this fantasy epic. The auteur, known for using large-format technology to treat viewers with an immersive big-screen experience, is going big and bold this time. The Matt Damon-fronted adaptation of Homer's classic poem will be shot entirely in IMAX, giving it the distinction of being the first film shot this way.

This means, unlike his last few films, which utilised the format only in a few sequences, with the occasional switch between regular and large aspect ratios, The Odyssey will arrive entirely in the IMAX-friendly aspect ratio. It is even more special that Nolan is working with IMAX film cameras, unlike the IMAX digital cameras used in films such as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
