Afghan central bank injects 15 mln USD to stabilize local currency

KABUL, July 2: Afghanistan’s central bank, known as Da Afghanistan Bank, injected 15 million U.S. dollars into the local market on Wednesday as part of efforts to support the national currency, the afghani.

“The bidders, including money changers and private banks, should deposit the necessary money in cash in the form of afghani in the central bank, Da Afghanistan Bank,” the bank said in a statement posted on its official X account.

According to the statement, the bank invited all eligible banks, foreign exchanges, and monetary service providers to participate in the auction.

As of Wednesday, the exchange rate stood at approximately 69.80 afghani per one U.S. dollar.

Afghanistan’s central bank has conducted regular U.S. dollar injections into the domestic exchange market to curb volatility and prevent further devaluation of the afghani amid ongoing economic hardship over the past three and a half years.(UNI)
