Mohammad Shami-Hasin Jahan News: Indian cricketer Mohammad Shami has got a big setback from the Calcutta High Court. The Calcutta High Court has directed Team India’s star fast bowler Mohammad Shami to pay alimony of Rs 4 lakh per month to his estranged wife Hasin Jahan and daughter during the legal battle. Jahan had approached the High Court against the order of the District Sessions Court. In the district court order, the cricketer was directed to pay Rs 50,000 to his wife and Rs 80,000 to his daughter in 2023.
Justice Ajay Kumar Mukherjee said in the order, “In my opinion, paying an amount of Rs 1,50,000 per month to petitioner number 1 (wife) and Rs 2,50,000 to his daughter till the disposal of the main application would be fair and reasonable to ensure the financial stability of both the petitioners.”
The order said, “However, in respect of the petitioner’s daughter, the husband/respondent No. 2 shall always be free to voluntarily assist in her education and/or other reasonable expenses in addition to the above amount.” According to the High Court order, Mohammed Shami will have to pay Rs 4 lakh per month for the last 7 years.
Mohammed Shami and his wife Hasin Jahan have been living separately for many years after the dispute. Shami has a daughter Ayra who lives with her mother Hasin Jahan. Hasin Jahan has been accusing Shami of not giving the required money for alimony. She has also been continuously fighting legal battles for this.
In the year 2018, Hasin Jahan had approached the court for monthly alimony. Jahan had demanded Rs 10 lakh monthly alimony from Shami. In this, she had asked for Rs 7 lakh for herself and Rs 3 lakh for the education and upbringing of her minor son.
However, in August 2018, the lower court had passed an order to give Shami Rs 50,000 every month for his wife and Rs 80,000 for his daughter. After this, Jahan had filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court against this decision of the District Court.
In her new petition, Hasin Jahan demanded alimony of Rs 6.50 lakh per month from Shami instead of Rs 1.30 lakh (80,000 + 50,000). But the High Court then ordered Shami to pay Rs 4 lakh per month to Jahan as alimony.
According to his income tax return for the financial year 2021, Mohammed Shami’s annual income was around Rs 7.19 crore or about Rs 60 lakh per month. Jahan claimed that his joint monthly expenditure including his daughter’s expenses is more than Rs 6 lakh.
