Mumbai: MNS, Shiv Sena-UBT Threaten Protest Over Delay In Carnac Bridge Opening; Heavy Police Deployed

Heavy police security has been deployed at the newly constructed but yet to open for traffic- the Carnac bridge in South Mumbai.

The issue of unnecessary delay is opening the bridge for traffic was taken up in legislative assembly session today by Congress MLA Amin Patel. The Free Press Journal had reported on July 1 that the bridge is ready but the BMC administration is only waiting for a formal nod from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The police on the spot at P D'mello Road told the FPJ that Shiv Sena UBT and MNS have called for a protest over delay in opening of Carnac bridge. The Assistant Commissioner of Police also visited walked through the bridge - from P' D'mello Road to Masjid Bunder to review police bandobast and on ground situation. 

The citizens are taking long detour for years now since the British era bridge was taken up for rebuilding as the audit showed it structurally weak. The BMC completed the rebuilding on June 10, all load testings were completed on June 15 and clearances from Railways received on June 24. However, is the BMC waiting for a VIP inauguration?, the citizens question.
