Parliament’s Monsoon Session Set For July 21–August 21 As Oppn Eyes Discussions On Pahalgam Attack, Op Sindoor

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on social media that the Government will convene the Monsoon Session of Parliament from July 21 to August 21, 2025, with no sittings on the 13th and 14th of August due to Independence Day celebrations.

“The Hon’ble President of India has approved the proposal of the Government to convene the Monsoon Session of Parliament from 21st July to 21st August, 2025. In view of the Independence Day celebrations, there will be no sittings on the 13th and 14th of August,” Rijiju posted.

both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will assemble at 11 a.m. on the opening day. This marks the first parliamentary sitting after more than three months of recess. The session is anticipated to witness intense political debates, especially as Opposition parties had demanded a special sitting to discuss national security concerns.

Opposition’s Push For Discussion on Pahalgam Attack, Operation Sindoor

Earlier, sixteen Opposition parties jointly sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They urged the government to call an urgent session to deliberate on the recent terror strike in Pahalgam and the subsequent Operation Sindoor — a cross-border offensive targeting nine terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The government, however, has now finalised the Monsoon Session schedule, stating that the issues flagged by the Opposition can be raised during the planned proceedings.

Key Bills Passed in Previous Session

The Budget Session, which ran from 31 January to 4 April in two parts, saw the passage of significant legislation. Among these was the Waqf Amendment Bill, which aims to improve the management of waqf properties, enhance stakeholder empowerment, expedite surveys and registrations, and modernise governance through scientific methods. Notably, the Mussalman Wakf Act, 1923, was repealed during the same period.

Additionally, Parliament approved the ‘Tribhuvan’ Sahkari University Bill, 2025, paving the way for the establishment of an institution dedicated to education, training, and research in the cooperative sector. Another notable legislation, the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, was enacted to simplify procedures related to passports, visas, and the registration of foreigners travelling to or from India.
