Three held for running ‘illegal’ de-addiction centre in Kaithal, 35 rescued

In a major crackdown on illegal operation of drug-addiction centres, the Kaithal police have arrested three persons for allegedly running an unauthorised de-addiction centre at Azimgarh village. The arrests were made following a joint operation conducted by District Nodal Officer Dr Navraj Singh’s team and ASI Rajesh Kumar, in-charge of the Mahmudpur police post.

The police spokesperson said the raid was carried out on July 1, during which 35 persons who were illegally confined at the centre were rescued. A significant quantity of medicines and 42 banned intoxicating tablets were also seized from the premises.

The accused have been identified as Ishwar, a resident of Chaba village, and Gaurav Kumar from Bathinda in Punjab and Prince from Samana in Punjab. ASI Rajesh Kumar’s team took the accused into custody and the seized materials. A case has been registered against the trio at the Guhla police station, and they have been sent to judicial custody as per the orders of the court, the spokesperson said.

He said the police have begun an investigation in it to determine how the illegal centre was operating and whether more individuals were involved in the racket.
