3-day ‘taxpayer hub’ launched in Chandigarh

To effectively educate and spread awareness among public, the Income Tax (I-T) Department, UT, inaugurated a three-day taxpayer hub at the Chandigarh Judicial Academy here today.

Manpreet Singh, national hockey player and four-time Olympian, was the chief guest on the occasion. Jyoti Kumari, Principal Director General of Income Tax (Admin and TPS), New Delhi, and Amrapalli Das, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Chandigarh, were also present at the hub.

Providing an interactive platform for tax-related education, services and engagement with the general public, the taxpayer hub features interactive kiosks, seminars, grievance redressal camps, meeting stakeholders, school outreach for tax literacy and the active presence of officials as facilitators, not enforcers.

In his address, the Olympian called the event a vital platform to engage citizens and raise awareness, highlighting how taxpayers’ contributions support key public services like sports, education, healthcare and infrastructure. He urged everyone to pay taxes honestly while expressing that the taxpayer hub would effectively educate and spread awareness among the public.

Amrapalli Das said the initiative was more than an event — a platform for information, interaction, innovation and inclusion. Aimed at educating and empowering taxpayers, the hub promotes voluntary compliance and showcases the department’s taxpayer-friendly approach.

The inauguration ceremony featured the launch of brochures highlighting taxpayer facilities and awareness initiatives. A short film titled — “Thank You Taxpayers” — dedicated to honour taxpayers of the North West Region was released on the occasion.

A variety of engaging activities, including nukkad natak and VR games, were held to connect with the public. The nukkad natak creatively highlighted the importance of filing income tax returns (ITR), claiming refunds and the critical role of income tax in the nation’s development and progress.
