Dr Chauhan appointed dean of PGIMS-Rohtak

Dr Ashok Chauhan, the newly appointed Dean of PGIMS, Rohtak, has said that his priorities would include strengthening academic excellence, upgrading infrastructure and enhancing research facilities.

“PGIMS administration is already performing well in key areas such as quality patient care, faculty development and administrative efficiency. I believe building collaborations with national and international institutions, encouraging innovation, and advancing research will be crucial in taking

the institute to greater heights,” Dr Chauhan said in a conversation with The Tribune on Wednesday.

Dr Chauhan was appointed the Dean by Dr HK Aggarwal, Vice-Chancellor of Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, on Tuesday, following the retirement of Dr Kuldeep Singh Lallar, Head, Department of Cardiology, PGIMS.

Born on May 7, 1962, in Sonipat district, Dr Chauhan completed his early education locally before pursuing higher studies in Chandigarh. He joined PGIMS, Rohtak, in 1980 for his MBBS and became the institute’s first student to pursue post-graduation in Radiation Oncology. In 1993, he joined as a faculty member and gradually rose to become Head of the Radiation Oncology Department.

Dr SK Singhal, Director of PGIMS, highlighted Dr Chauhan’s extensive administrative experience.

“As Estate Officer, Dr Chauhan played a key role in initiating major projects like the Chaudhary Ranbir Singh OPD, Trauma Centre and the Sushruta Auditorium. He also served as the nodal officer for the development and technical support of medical colleges in Khanpur, Mewat and Kalpana Chawla Medical College,” Dr Singhal added.
