Instagram Accounts Of Hania, Fawad, Mahira Khan Blocked Again In India
In a swift reversal, the social media accounts of several prominent Pakistani celebrities were once again blocked in India on Thursday, just a day after they had mysteriously become accessible to Indian users.
Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) profiles of well-known Pakistani figures, including Mahira Khan, Hania Aamir, Fawad Khan, Mawra Hocane, and Shahid Afridi, became inaccessible to Indian users by Thursday morning. The move comes barely 24 hours after their accounts had briefly reappeared, prompting speculation that restrictions might have been eased.
Users See 'Message' While Opening Pak Accounts
Users attempting to access these accounts now see a message stating: “Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.” A similar message appears on Instagram, X, and YouTube for multiple Pakistani personalities and channels.
On July 2, fans were surprised to see accounts of Saba Qamar, Yumna Zaidi, Danish Taimoor, and others reappear. Even Pakistani entertainment channels such as Hum TV, ARY Digital, and Har Pal Geo became briefly visible again.
No Word From Govt
There has been no official comment from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting regarding either the temporary unblocking or the renewed restrictions. The reasons behind the rollback remain unclear, fueling speculation online.
The original ban was reportedly enforced following Operation Sindoor, a high-profile Indian military strike targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK. Several Pakistani celebrities had criticised the operation, triggering a wave of nationalist backlash and eventual geoblocking of their content.
With no formal announcement yet, users and digital rights groups are left questioning the transparency and consistency of these digital takedowns.
