Breaking: Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag Faces Flood Threat as Alaknanda River Swells Beyond Danger Mark

Heavy rains in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand have triggered a surge in the water level of the Alaknanda River, creating a flood-like situation in the region. The river is now flowing above the danger mark, posing a significant threat to nearby residential areas. Alarming visuals show water entering buildings and inundating streets, spreading panic among locals. Overnight torrential rainfall also caused multiple landslides, especially in the Netala area, one of the most vulnerable slide zones. The main road connecting to Gangotri Dham was temporarily blocked by debris but has now been cleared for single-lane traffic with the help of JCB machines. This route is critical as it is currently used by several Kanwar pilgrims carrying Gangajal from Gangotri to Kedarnath for ritualistic offerings. Despite warnings of heavy rainfall and the risk of landslides, many devotees are still on foot along the treacherous route. Authorities have urged pilgrims to pause at designated camps during intense rainfall and avoid proceeding further in dangerous weather. Emergency machinery is on standby, and local administration remains on high alert. With the Kanwar Yatra officially beginning on July 11, the current situation raises concerns over safety and smooth passage for thousands of upcoming devotees.
