Janhit: Dhaba Worker’s False Name Adds Fuel to Kanwar Route Nameplate Clash | ABP NEWS
The nameplate controversy ahead of the Kanwar Yatra has taken a dramatic turn. The dhaba worker who earlier identified himself as “Gopal” and accused Swami Yashvir’s team of forcibly removing his pants during an identity check has now been revealed to be Tajammul, not Hindu but Muslim. His Aadhaar card surfaced, confirming his real name. According to sources, the dhaba owner allegedly advised him to hide his identity and use a Hindu name to avoid confrontation. Meanwhile, another claim by Swami Yashvir — that the dhaba is owned by a Muslim — has proven false. Records confirm the dhaba is owned by Diksha Sharma, a Hindu. This has reignited debate around the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand government’s nameplate directive for eateries on the Kanwar route. While the UP government’s July 2024 order cited spiritual purity and food safety, the Supreme Court on July 22, 2024, stayed the part requiring shopkeepers to display their names, stating only food type (vegetarian/non-vegetarian) is mandatory. Muslims in previous years had complied by displaying names or closing shops, but now the focus shifts again: Is identity suppression being forced, or are religious sentiments being exploited?
