Mahadangal: Nameplate Checks Spark Legal and Communal Outrage Ahead of Kanwar Yatra | ABP NEWS

As the Kanwar Yatra approaches, a fierce political and legal storm brews over the enforcement of nameplate rules on food shops along the yatra route. The debate intensified during a recent Mahadangal on ABP News, where leaders questioned the legitimacy of identity checks being carried out by private groups instead of government authorities. Samajwadi Party leader Anurag Bhadouria slammed the comparison of such checks with anti-terror operations, asking, “Is it lawful for private individuals to decide which shop belongs to which religion?” He insisted that only authorized officials should inspect nameplate compliance, as per Supreme Court guidelines. Bhadouria accused the government of failing to act, stating.” RLD MP Malook Nagar added, “In Uttarakhand, many Muslims voluntarily put up nameplates and serve Kanwariyas with devotion. Why are vigilante groups targeting them now?” He warned that if no action is taken, such incidents will multiply as the yatra progresses. The clash between faith, law, and identity is turning volatile. As Saavan nears, the focus shifts from spiritual devotion to constitutional accountability.
