Ranbir Kapoor As Lord Ram In Ramayana: Convincing Reasons Why He Is Not A Miscast
Who wouldn't want to play Lord Ram on screen? It is not every day that an opportunity of this kind comes along. While some are scoffing at Ranbir Kapoor's casting as Lord Ram, given his last on-screen portrayal of a man consumed by his quest for vengeance in Animal, many are skeptical if he would do justice to the 'pious' role.
Ranbir may not be easy to like or root for and post revelations made on a Koffee With Karan episode with Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone where aspersions were cast on his character, which of course have absolutely no bearing on the role he essays as an actor, one must admit that he is a changed man post his marriage and the arrival of Raha.
Casting director Mukesh Chhabra says he knew what he was doing when he cast Ranbir as Lord Ram, and however hard it is to believe, one can't ignore the fact that Ranbir does tick a couple of boxes.
Ranbir is a brilliant actor
Be it Brahmastra, Animal, Rockstar, Barfi, Tamasha or Sanju, Ranbir has not only got the kind of roles that an actor would envy, but he has also breathed life into all his characters.
He is known to jump right in, which means you are only going to see the best version of him as an actor with every upcoming film.
He has a risk-taking attitude that directors love and if Ranbir ever fails, he is sure to bounce back.
Ranbir is gifted. He has got acting in his genes. He knows how to hold your attention. He has good looks that women can't resist and is a performer who leaves his stamp on every film.
For the young generation, he is an aspirational figure and admit it, you can never ever get bored of his range as an actor.
Ranbir has been a rock for his family, especially after his father Rishi Kapoor's death
Lord Ram was the 'perfect son' who was extremely devoted to his family and kept the promise he made to his father, left his kingdom and went into the forest for a 14-year exile.
For starters, Ranbir is a really doting son. Neetu Kapoor calls him her "shakti astra", "jaane jigar" and "favourite costar".
Ranbir may be a "mamma's boy", but on Instagram Neetu admitted that she "learns so much from him daily".
She even rates him as her best teacher. "When you leave so much goodness behind wherever you go; when you are our strength; when you understand without saying; when you encourage everyone around you, all of this fills my heart with so much joy and pride," Neetu revealed, showcasing the good in her son to the world.
Ranbir is the brother everyone wishes they had!
Lord Ram shared a loving bond with his family, especially with his siblings Bharata and Lakshman.
Lord Ram, being an elder brother, acted not just out of responsibility but also love and care for Lakshman.
Ranbir also shares a lovely camaraderie with his sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni for whom he is a 'rockstar bro'.
Cousins Kareena Kapoor Khan often dotes on him and the admiration people have for him, doesn't just run in the Kapoor family.
Ravi Dubey who plays Lakshman in Ramayana looks up to Ranbir. In an interview, Ravi mentioned that "Ranbir is incredibly kind. He is one of the kindest people I have ever met. He is very warm and welcoming."
Ranbir is the calm in the storm
According to casting director Mukesh Chhabra, Ranbir "naturally possess a calm and serene demeanour" that make him an ideal fit for the role.
"He has a calmness on his face, and that was necessary for the film," said Mukesh confident of his faith in Ranbir.
Mamma Neetu feels not only does Ranbir have a "deep understanding of people's emotions", but he can also "effortlessly make people feel secure around him".
Fatherhood has changed Ranbir
According to Neetu, "Ranbir has changed a lot after becoming a father."
Alia Bhatt has often described Ranbir as a devoted father in her interviews. "When he looks at Raha, there's like stars in his eyes. Of course, for any parents. But when I see it, because I've known Ranbir pre and I know him now, I see the difference. I see the difference in the way he is with people, you know, as a father," she said.
On the first episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show, Neetu also remarked that Ranbir "has become a lot more caring, affectionate and overall, a different person since Raha has come into his life".
One wonders if Ranbir has already started reading chapters of Ramayana to little Raha, who seems to be at the right age to be introduced to Indian mythological books.
Also, one cannot take away from the fact that an actor's job is to essay a role to perfection; they got to pretend to be who people to think they are on-screen.
If Ranbir is an action hero, it is obvious that he will toughen up for the role. If he is to star as the lead in a romcom, his charming side needs to be on full display.
But what if the character he is playing is Lord Ram? Does that mean he is put in a position where he needs to be perfect? Of course not.
Only time will tell if Ramayana turns out to be Ranbir's best performance till date and whether the ones who are groaning today about his choice as Lord Ram will be sorry that they doubted him.
