Is Toyota Planning To Launch A Mild Hybrid Land Cruiser Prado For India?

The Land Cruiser Prado launch for India has been delayed and it seems Toyota could be waiting to launch the mild hybrid version of the same. The diesel engine powering the new Prado has a 48V mild-hybrid system which enables better fuel efficiency and smoother acceleration. The engine in question is a 2.8 litre diesel engine with 204hp and 500Nm while the 48v mild hybrid system comprises a 4.3Ah lithium-ion battery and an electric motor generator.

Hence, there is an additional 16hp provided while the auto start/stop means better fuel efficiency too. Now that the Fortuner also gets the same mild hybrid diesel engine, it makes sense for Toyota to launch the same in India with the Land Cruiser Prado. The new Prado might launch within the next few months with an early 2026 launch too. The new generation Prado still maintains its rugged nature while the pricing would be around Rs 1 crore being a Defender rival of sorts.

The mild hybrid Prado with the diesel makes sense for our market and Toyota has been steadily increasing its electrification strategy with a slew of mild hybrid options while recently the LC300 has gained a strong hybrid powertrain which is a first for the brand name. The new generation Prado has had a big change with a rugged new exterior focussed on off-road driving plus it gains new features too. The new Prado will enter the segment between the Fortuner and the LC300 while it could be displayed at the next Auto Expo before an eventual launch in India.
