Towards a Drug-Free Punjab: A Mission of Healing and Hope
The Maan Government Anti-drug campaign in Punjab is not just about crackdowns or campaigns, it’s about saving lives, restoring families, and reclaiming the future of an entire generation. At the helm of this mission stands Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, whose government has taken decisive, ground-level action to eliminate the menace of drugs from Punjab’s soil.
From Crackdown to Care: A Dual-Pronged Strategy
Under the Chief Minister’s leadership, the state has launched the ‘Yudh Nasha De Virudh’ campaign a war against narcotics that combines law enforcement with compassionate rehabilitation.
Between March 1 and June 8, Punjab Police registered over 9,580 NDPS cases and arrested more than 16,348 individuals involved in drug trafficking and consumption. But beyond arrests and seizures, the Mann Government understands one critical truth addiction is a disease, not a crime. And those suffering deserve a chance at recovery.
Hope for the Addicted: Hiring 200 Psychologists for Immediate Relief
Recognizing the emotional and mental toll addiction takes, the Punjab Government has sanctioned the immediate recruitment of 200 psychologists across the state. These professionals will be deployed temporarily for six months to fast-track support in de-addiction centres and hospitals, while permanent recruitment processes are simultaneously initiated.
This timely decision ensures that no individual who seeks help is left behind due to lack of resources or counselling support.
Expanding Healing Spaces: 2,000 More Beds for De-addiction
Under CM Mann’s direction, the government has added 1,000 new beds in public hospitals and de-addiction centres. Additionally, if the current capacity is exhausted, an additional 1,000 beds in private institutions and rehab centres will be made available, fully funded by the government. This move removes the financial barrier that often deters addicts from seeking treatment.
From Fear to Faith: Changing the Mindset Around Recovery
Gone are the days when addiction victims hesitated to come forward. Today, thanks to grassroots awareness and sustained efforts, ‘Yudh Nasha De Virudh’ has become a people’s movement. Citizens are not just sharing information about drug peddling; they are encouraging friends, neighbours, and family members to seek help without shame or stigma.
More and more victims are stepping up to fight their demons. They are walking into clinics, rehab centres, and community support groups , hopeful, not helpless.
The CM’s Vision: A United Punjab Against Drugs
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has made it clear , the road to a drug-free Punjab cannot be walked alone. It requires collective effort from police officers to psychologists, from educators to parents, from panchayats to policymakers.
“We are not just fighting a problem; we are fighting for our people. Punjab will be drug-free not through fear, but through faith, support, and sustained action.” — CM Bhagwant Singh Mann
With every arrest made, every bed added, every life saved, Punjab moves one step closer to healing.
