Liverpool striker Diogo Jota dies aged 28 after tragic car crash in Spain

New Delhi: Liverpool player Diogo Jota has died at the age of 28 after an tragic car accident in northern Spain, just two weeks after his wedding ceremony.

According to the Daily Mail, local firemen in Zamora, Spain reported that the two men who died (28 and 26 years) were killed because their car caught fire after the incident.

How the accident happened? 

The Portuguese striker was driving a Lamborghini and it is said that the car had a blown tyre during an overtaking manoeuvre of the A-52 in Cernadilla in the province of Zamora although near the Portuguese border.

The younger brother of the victim, Andre Silva, 26, a fellow professional footballer that played in Portuguese club FC Penafiel, also was in the vehicle. Both were brothers and they were killed during a crash.

According to local records, the Lamborghini has lost control, rolled and caught fire sometime during the early hours of Thursday morning. The scene was rushed to and emergency services came in.

“The 1-1-2 Castilla y León operations room received several calls reporting a vehicle accident at Km. 65 of the A-52, in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora. A car was reported to have been involved in an accident and the vehicle was on fire,” Emergency responders in the Castilla and Leon region confirmed in a statement.

“1-1-2 notified the Zamora Traffic Police, the Zamora Provincial Council Fire Brigade, and the Sacyl Emergency Coordination Center (CCU) of this accident. From there, a Medical Emergency Unit (UME) and the Primary Care Medical Staff (MAP) from the Mombuey Health Center were sent, who confirmed the death of two people on the scene.”

The accident happened in a segment of the highway usually trafficked by the drivers who go to Santander or Bilbao ports or towards France, in the north of Portugal.

This tragic crash takes place only weeks after Jota got married to Rute Cardoso in Porto on 22 June. The couple has three kids who both appeared awesomely happy in wedding pictures. As late as his last Instagram post which was published a day before the accident, Jota referred to himself as the luckiest man in the world because Rute was his wife.
