PRESIDENT Droupadi Murmu on July 1 inaugurated the Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. Describing the university as a modern centre of India’s ancient traditions and values, the President said the institution would prove to be a milestone in the field of health services not only for Uttar Pradesh but for the entire country.
Emphasising the importance of holistic health approaches like Ayurveda, Yoga, Siddha, and Naturopathy, the President called them “scientific systems of meaningful and long-lasting health.” “In our ancient lifestyle based on Ayurveda, a lot of attention was given to the daily routine, night and seasonal routine. Balanced diet, behaviour and thoughts were given importance. Here, health is considered to be the best foundation of Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha”, the President said.
Highlighting the importance of medicinal plants and herbs, the President emphasised, “Ayurveda is connected to our earth. In our fields, in our forests, there is still a treasure of medicinal plants and herbs. The medicines based on these do not have any expiry date. This proves the amazing scientific nature of the Ayurveda medicine system.”
Speaking on the occasion, Adityanath described the occasion as the beginning of a new era in health and culture in the state. He said that this university will attract the world as a new destination for health tourism. He said that a 100-bed Health and Wellness Centre will be built in every district for health. Earlier on June 30, President Murmu addressed the 11th Convocation of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly. She said the use of technology can empower veterinary hospitals across the country. The use of technologies like genome editing, embryo transfer technologies, artificial intelligence, and big data analytics can bring revolutionary changes in this field, she said.
The President appealed to institutes like IVRI to find indigenous and low-cost treatments and nutrition for animals. Union Agriculture and Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the Indian Veterinary Research Institute has provided direction to the world through its research and disease diagnosis. This institute has played a major role not only in veterinary research but also in rural development.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the Indian Veterinary Research Institute has been making important contributions not only in the field of animal health but also in human health. This was evident during the COVID-19 period when the institute conducted over 2 lakh tests. The President will also attend the inaugural convocation of AIIMS Gorakhpur today, where she will confer medals on meritorious students. Tomorrow, the President will inaugurate Uttar Pradesh’s first Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University in the morning. In the afternoon, she will inaugurate the academic block, auditorium, and Panchkarma Centre, and lay the foundation stone for the girls’ hostel at Mahayogi Gorakhnath University’s Arogyadham campus in Sonbarsa.
