Store sufficient water if your supply depends on electric pumps, and prepare meals in advance to avoid using electric appliances during the downtime. Unplug sensitive electronics such as TVs, refrigerators, and computers to protect them from potential voltage surges when power is restored. Keep flashlights, emergency lamps, or candles readily available, and avoid using elevators just before or during the shutdown.
